| Artificial
Insemination (AI)
|
With
the high demand of AI in todays breeding market we are able to offer
both natural and AI for our Stallions or a Stallion of your choice.
.
|
|
Lisa
is a Defra approved AI Tecnician who works in conjunction with
specialist vets, this way we offer an overall package or insemination
rates. |
|
To
achieve a higher pregancny rate when using AI, alot of time and
skill is needed . Not all Mares are suitable for AI and AI is
not a cheap alternative to natural covering. However due to advanced
Vetinary skills, Stallion collection centres and recognised AI
centres the conception rates are much higher today. But "natural",
still is best. |
|
Once
we have settled in your Mare we will give her a pre-breeding assessment,
this could involve a scan of her ovaries, to see where she is
in her cycle, and that her ovaries, uterus and cervix and vaginal
opening have no defects, if swabs are needed we will carry out
these prior to insemination to ensure any bacterial infection
or endemetritis are present. We will also carry out all the above
for natural covering. We prefer Mares to have swabs taken before
coming to the stud, however we are happy to carry these out for
you. |
 |
Once
we are sure your Mare is suitable for AI we will then continue
to monitor the Mare by using our "teaser" (Charlie)
and ultrasound scanning if needed. Once the Mare enters her ovulation
phase over a period of 2-7 days, she will be ready to inseminate. |
 |
When
we are sure the Mare is due to ovulate we can scan the Mare upto
3 times a day/night to ensure that ovulation will take place,
Semen will then be checked under the microscope to ensure its
quality and Motilty are viable, then the semen is inseminated
into the Mare. Until we are sure that ovulation has taken place,
scanning again will tell us is the mare has ovulated. Sometimes
it is necessary to inseminante for more than one cycle, hence
why AI is more expensive than natural covering. |
 |
Injections
to induce the Mare ovulation cycle can be given if deemed necessary,
also HCG injections are used by the Vet, You will be billed accordingly. |
 |
A
post insemination scan is then carried out 14 days after insemination,
this will detect a positive or negative pregnancy, after 26-28
days, a scan will be carried out to check the foetal development
and to ensure there are no twins. |

Hopefully
at this point you can take your happy infoal mum home. |
